Internal Secondment Opportunity – 6 Months
Principal Manager – Children’s Emergency Duty Team (EDT)

Are you ready to step into a leadership role that has real impact for children and families across our city?

We are offering an exciting internal secondment opportunity for an experienced and motivated practitioner to join the Children’s Emergency Duty Team as Principal Manager for a period of six months.

EDT plays a vital role in safeguarding our most vulnerable children and young people outside of normal working hours. You will lead the daily operational function of the team, ensuring high-quality practice, sound decision making and effective partnership working at times of high risk and demand.

This role reports directly to the Head of Service for the Integrated Front Door and EDT. You will receive strong professional support while being empowered to work autonomously, think creatively and shape how we deliver services in fast-paced and dynamic situations.

We are seeking a colleague who:

• Is passionate about ensuring children receive the right support at the right time
• Has substantial post-qualifying experience within statutory children’s services
• Has experience of supervising or mentoring staff
• Is confident, resilient and able to provide clear oversight under pressure
• Embraces change and contributes positively to our improvement journey

This secondment is a fantastic opportunity to:

• Gain senior management experience
• Lead a specialist frontline team
• Influence new and innovative ways of working
• Support development and growth within a high-priority service

Role Requirements:

• Registered Social Worker (Social Work England)
• Able to fulfil the flexible working requirements including evenings (up to 10pm) and alternate weekends
• Ability to travel across the city to meet service needs

You will be an integral part of embedding our learning culture with a focus on:

• Restorative and relational practice
• Delivering on our Child-Friendly City ambitions
• Ensuring children’s voices are central to our decision-making

If you are enthusiastic, driven and keen to take the next step in your leadership journey, we would love to hear from you.

Join us as we work together to deliver great outcomes for children and young people in Stoke-on-Trent.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expect all employees to share this commitment.
