This advert is open to both Internal and External applicants.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to kick start their career as a Trainee Trading Standards Officer.
You will join our dynamic and innovative team, protecting Stoke- on -Trent residents and supporting local business to thrive in a fair trading environment.
You will undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards Officer Apprenticeship, specialising in Tobacco and Vapes legislation and developing your skills to undertake a wide range of functions including Fair Trading, Food Standards, and Trademarks enforcement.
Working alongside our team, you will provide advice to residents and businesses, carry out business inspections, and conduct investigations, taking appropriate enforcement action and preparing cases for court.
You will be educated to Level 3 standard e.g. apprenticeship standard level 3; A levels; BTEC or T Level with 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths or Functional Skills equivalents.
You will have experience of customer service and be able to communicate with a wide range of people.
You will have a confident approach, with the ability to interpret legal information, and to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
You will be a self-motivated, reliable team member.
We offer a full training package, with continuous on-the-job training.

This is a fixed term contract with up to 29 months training to achieve the Apprenticeship.
On successful completion this post may be extended to March 2029.
Additional training to qualify fully as a TSO will be required but not guaranteed as part of this post.
