Description
The Nest are looking for an enthusiastic Education Engagement Specialist, to become part of the team at The Nest – our independent special school for children age 11-16 with SEN needs. The successful candidate will engage with young people and the wider multi-agency team to support and enrich the educational lives and achievements of the young people who attend The Nest.
The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:
· Flexibility to work across a broad range of needs for students with EHCP’s (Education, Health and Care plans).
· Experience working with students with a range of SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, PDA and ODD.
· Plan and deliver individual and group academic sessions and work closely with the head of school and curriculum manager to reflect on the progress of learning and provide feedback when required.
· Dedication to the role and to providing the best outcomes for our learners.
· Proactive and motivated to engage students to be successful across their daily timetable.
· Excellent in a fast-paced working environment with strong communication skills.
· Highly creative and open minded to think quickly to meet the needs of our learners.
· Must have a strong sense of resilience and a ‘tomorrow is a new day’ attitude.
· Must be able to work closely with the rest of the staff team to ensure consistent and manageable interventions and strategies are in place.
· Is familiar with, or willing to take part in training to understand behaviour interventions such as logical consequences and windows of tolerance.
· Can recognise and respond appropriately to non-verbal communication.
· Be able to follow through with boundaries in a child centred approach.
· Will engage the child in activities to meet their needs, this includes physical activities such as trips to the park.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
· Maths and English GCSE Level 4 or above
· Level 3 in Teaching and Learning
· Experience teaching/delivering a variety of KS3 or KS4 subjects, Unit Awards and BTEC courses.
· Experience in Special Education/ settings focused on supporting SEMH needs.
· Can create engaging lesson resources and implement a variety of active teaching strategies.
· Planning and marking work in accordance with school’s marking, teaching and learning policy.
· Experience in exam invigilation/ supporting access arrangements. Assessor Qualification in Functional Skills, Vocational subjects.
